Women's Waterpolo: Elise Martin Named Big West Player of the Week, No. 18 Pacific Travels To Lancer Invite

Freshman Elise Martin (Calgary, AB, Canada) of Pacific women's water polo team was named the Big West Player of the Week on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Martin earned the distinction for the first time in her career in the orange and black after tallying 10 goals, seven assists, three steals and five field blocks during the Tigers trip to the Aztec Invitational March 12-13.

At the two day tournament Elise had a 2.50 goals per game average in four contests, while scoring 10 of Pacific's 30 goals on the weekend. During the Tigers 9-6 win over No. 18 UC San Diego Martin paced the Tigers when she scored a career high five goals. Elise is currently second on the team in goals (27), assists (21) and steals (20), and leads the team in field blocks with 15.

Collegiate Water Polo Association Top-20 Poll
Despite falling to from No. 19 to No. 20 in the March 9 Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) national poll, Pacific's women's water polo team has jumped two spots to No. 18 in the latest Top-20 poll released on Wednesday, March 16, 2011. The Tigers achieved their highest ranking of the season after defeating Wagner (8-6), No. 18 UC San Diego (9-6) and Cal State Bakersfield (6-3) at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif.

In the final weekend of non-conference play, Pacific travels to the Lancer Invite hosted by California Baptist March 18-19. The two day tournament that begins on Friday has Pacific taking on Fresno Pacific, Marist, Occidental and Pomona-Pitzer.

The Tigers open the 2011 Lancer Invite at 12:15 pm on Friday, March 18 against Fresno Pacific.
