Women's Water Polo: No. 20 Pacific Cruises To 6-3 Win Over Cal State Bakersfield
Playing against Cal State Bakersfield (CSUB) in their final game of the Aztec Invitational, Pacific's women's water polo team defeated the Roadrunners 6-3 on Sunday, March 13, to finish the weekend with a 3-1 record. With the win the Tigers improved to 12-8 on the season.
In the win over the Roadrunners Pacific jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first period. The Tigers kept up their scoring momentum in the second period after scoring pair of goals to take the 5-0 lead. Freshman Michele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) helped the Tigers shutout the Roadrunners in the first two frames when she registered eight saves in the cage. Trailing 5-0 heading into the third quarter, CSUB found the back of the net for the first time in the contest while holding the Tigers scoreless to reduce Pacific's lead to four. Despite giving up two goals in the final frame to the Roadrunners, Pacific scored its final goal of the contest for a 6-3 final score
Pacific was paced by senior Siobhan Larsen (Mundelein, Ill.) and freshman Elise Martin(Calgary, AB, Canada) who scored two goals apiece. Freshman Michele Relton(Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) had 15 saves in the cage for Pacific.
