    Mar 12, 2011

Facing No. 18 UC San Diego (UCSD) in their second game on Saturday, March 12, Pacific's women's water polo team took down the Tritons 9-6. With the win the Tigers improved to 11-7 on the season while UCSD fell to 9-9 (5-1 WWPA) on the year.

UCSD set off the game taking a 2-1 lead in the first frame; however the Tiger defense stepped up in the second quarter and limited the Tritons to one goal. Offensively Pacific rallied in the quarter notching four goals to give the Tigers the two point advantage heading into the half. Leading 5-3 at the start of the third, the Tigers shutout the Tritons behind two saves by freshman Michele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada), while notching an additional go to expand Pacific's lead to three. In the final frame, UCSD scored a trio of goals but the Tigers countered with three goals of their own for a 9-6 final score.

Individually the Tigers were led by Elise Martin (Calgary, AB, Canada) who scored five goals and Bethany Quertermous (Humble, Texas) tallied a pair of goals. Also finding the back of the net for Pacific was the King twins, Allie and Mandy. Michile Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) finished the game with seven saves in the cage.

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, March 13, with an 8:45 am tilt against No. 10 San Jose State. Pacific then wraps up the Aztec Invitational at 1:45 pm against Cal State Bakersfield.
