Women's Water Polo: Paced By Dara Tawarahara's Five Goals, No. 19 Pacific Defeats Sonoma State, 8-2

Behind a five goal performance by Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) against Sonoma State in the second contest of the day at the Aggie Shootout, Pacific's women's water polo team defeated the Sea Wolves, 8-2. With the win the Tigers improved to 9-6 on the year.

At the start of the contest offensively Pacific struck first behind a goal from Tawarahara at the 6:04 mark to take the 1-0 lead. However Sonoma State tied the game at one all with a goal at the 3:03 mark. Pacific regained the one point advantage on Tawarahara's second goal of the quarter with 2:43 remaining on the clock.

Pacific then gained the three point advantage on goals from Elise Martin (Calgary, AB, Canada) and Tawarahara at the 7:30 and 6:16 spots in the second quarter.

Leading 4-1 at the end of the half Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.) and Tawarahara notched back-to-back goals at the 4:25 and 2:39 points to put the Tigers up 6-1 heading into the final frame.

Tawarahara then put the Tigers up by six at the 7:36 mark in the fourth quarter however the Sea Wolves responded with a goal at the 5:33 point to make it a 7-2 game. Pacific then closed out the contest with a goal from Callan Rowe with 3:17 remaining on the clock for an 8-2 final score.

The Tigers were paced by Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) who scored five goals in the game for Pacific. FreshmanMichele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) had 10 saves thru three quarters for the Tigers while senior Kailee Bucknum recoded two saves in the final quarter of play.



Pacific returns to action on Sunday, March 6 at 1 pm against host UC Davis.
