Women's Water Polo: No. 19 Tigers Travel To Aggie Shootout

Mar 4, 2011

In the latest poll released by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), Pacific's women's water polo team was ranked as the No. 19 team in the nation for the sixth consecutive week.

For the second consecutive week Pacific will remain close to home for competition. This weekend's action takes the Tigers 60 miles north to Davis, Calif., for the Aggie Shootout March 5-6.

Pacific spilt action against No. 16 Indiana and Santa Clara at The Rodeo hosted by Santa Clara in the weekend leading up to the latest Top-20 national poll. Against No. 16 Indiana the Tigers were paced by senior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) who tallied four goals in Pacific's 8-7 over the Hoosiers. In the second game of the day Pacific suffered a tough 8-7 loss in double overtime to Santa Clara. Down 6-4 heading into the final quarter, the Tigers notched two goals to tie the game at six all to send the contest into double overtime. However with four seconds remaining on the clock the Broncos found the back of the net for an 8-7 final score. Mandy King (Benicia, Calif.) led all Tiger scorers with three goals. Freshman Michele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) finished the weekend with 31 saves in the cage, which included a program high 18 saves against Santa Clara.
