Women's Waterpolo: Tigers Fall To Santa Clara At Aggie Shootout, 5-1
Facing the Broncos for the second time in one week, Pacific's women's water polo team dropped a 5-1 decision to Santa Clara University in the first game of the Aggie Shootout on Saturday March 5. With the loss the Tigers fell to 8-6 on the season.
The 11:45 am tilt began with both teams being held scoreless in the first frame. FreshmanMichele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) helped the Tiger defense hold the Broncos scoreless with two saves in the cage.
Heading into the second quarter with a scoreless game, Santa Clara found the back of the net at the 4:21 mark to take the 1-0 lead entering the half. The Broncos then extended their lead by two with a goal at the 7:29 mark in the third quarter, however senior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) countered with Pacific's lone goal of the game when she found the back of the net with 1:45 remaining in the quarter. But the Broncos responded with their own goal with 20 seconds remaining in the third frame to take the 3-1 lead.
Santa Clara then closed out the contest tallying two additional goals in the final quarter of play for a 5-1 final score.
Pacific was led by senior Dara Tawarahara (Honolulu, Hawaii) who found the back of the net once for the Tigers. Freshman Michele Relton (Beaconsfield, QC, Canada) recorded nine saves in the cage for Pacific.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 05 with a 3:45 pm contest against Sonoma State.
