Pacific Softball: Pacific Heads To The Stanford Regional For The NCAA Tournament
The 2011 Big West champion Pacific softball will head just down the road for NCAA Regional play as they will play at Stanford for the first round of the tournament. As announced on Sunday, May 15, the Tigers (37-17) will take on the overall No. 15 seed Stanford Cardinal (38-15) while Nebraska (39-12) will square off against Fresno State (34-17) in first round action.
Four teams will participate at each of the 16 regional sites in a double-elimination tournament. The regional winners will face off in the May 27-28 Super Regionals, with eight teams advancing to the 2011 WCWS at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, June 2-8.
The Tigers make their first appearance in the postseason since the 2007 season after winning their first-ever Big West championship. Their first round opponent, Stanford, finished their Pac-10 season in fifth place. The two teams met earlier in the year in Stockton, Calif. where the Cardinal posted a 6-1 victory over the Tigers. Pacific is also very familiar with Fresno State as the two teams squared off at Bill Simoni Field in a single game in which Pacific posted a 5-4 (11 inn.) victory.
