Pacific AMCP Explores Careers at Kaiser Permanente

By: Sean Chu ’13Nov 21, 2011

On September 20 the Pacific Chapter of the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) hosted an informational panel of Kaiser Permanente Pharmacists. Roughly 150 first and second year pharmacy students attended the event, which aimed to expand students' views of career opportunities in pharmacy.

The roles and responsibilities of ambulatory care, outpatient, and drug information specialist pharmacists were just a few of the topics discussed. A key topic in the event was the presentation of the Kaiser-Stockton's Managed Care Residency Program. This program is unique because it incorporates clinical care to supplement its managed care focus.

At the end of the night, pharmacists were able to answer the students' questions, provide one-on-one conversation opportunities, both of which allowed AMCP members to ask for more personalized advice on school and residencies. "I thought the speakers were very helpful and provided a lot of information. After tonight's event, I was really inspired," said Fareeh Nawaz '14.

AMCP aims to offer student pharmacists new ways of thinking about and experiencing the field of pharmacy. All members of the Pacific community are more than welcome to attend future events and discover the many paths this field offers.
