Tigers Basketball Opens with Home Game

The Pacific men's basketball team opens the 2011-12 exhibition season with a home game against Cal State East Bay at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5. The game will follow a women's basketball game against the Academy of Art at 5:00 p.m. It will be the first chance for fans to see the new look Tigers, as the men's team returns just two letterwinners from last year's 16-15 team. Though four other redshirts return, 14 players will be debuting in the Orange and Black this year.

2010-11 IN REVIEW

Pacific finished 2010-11 with a record of 16-15 overall, finishing in fourth place with a Big West Conference mark of 8-8 ... The Tigers have won 20 or more games in six of the last eight seasons, and hold an overall record of 169-89 in that period ... In Big West games, the Tigers hold the most league wins over the last 13 years, posting 134 victories ... Pacific has advanced to the postseason in five of the last eight seasons, with three NCAA Tournament berths and two CollegeInsder.com Tournament appearances ... Senior Sam Willard led two Tigers on all-league teams by earning All-Big West Conference First Team honors ... Sophomore  Allen Huddleston earned All-Big West Conference Honorable Mention honors.


Pacific returns just 39 of 2038 points (2%) from last year, the lowest returning total in the country ... Junior Jordan Turner made one start in 16 appearances ... Sophomore Khalil Kelley is the only other returning letterwinner for the Tigers ... Kelley made three starts for the Tigers in his 24 appearances.


Four redshirts also return for the Tigers, each from a different class ... Senior Marvin Cotton, junior Rundell Mauge, sophomore Andrew Bock and freshman Spencer Llewellyn all come back after spending the year learning the Tiger system.


The Tigers welcome 10 new additions to the program this year ... Junior transfers Colin Beatty, Rodrigo De Souza, Markus Duran, Travis Fulton, Lorenzo McCloud and Tim Thomas along with sophomores Adam Eakles, Markcus Falley, Trevin Harris and Ross Rivera each came to Pacific's campus to begin the 2011-12 season.


Head coach Bob Thomason (Pacific, '71) enters his 24th season at Pacific with a record of 403-290 with the Tigers ... In 2009-10, Thomason earned CollegeInsider.com Big West Conference Coach of the Year honors ... In 2005-06, Thomason was named Big West Conference Coach of the Year for the third straight year ... He has earned the award five times ... He is the winningest coach in school history, and the only coach to guide his teams to 400 wins ... Entering the 2010-11 season, he was the 32nd winningest active coach and 10th on the list of Most Seasons With Current School ... Thomason has 229 Big West wins, which is the most in league history ... He has more experience at his current school than any other coach in the Big West Conference and is just the second coach in Big West history to record 400 wins during Big West membership ... Associate head coach Ron Verlin (Sacramento State, '90) returns for his 18th season ... Tiger assistant coach Adam Jacobsen (Pacific, '97) returns for his 11th year, while Calvin Byrd (Pacific ,'97), returns for his sixth season in his second stint with the program.


#2 Colin Beatty

(6-4/G/JR/Lanham, Md./Barton County CC)

Beatty spent two years at Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas ... Colin was a second Team All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College selection as both a freshman and a sophomore and helped the team to a 19-11 record, scoring in double figures 20 times ... He was second on the team with 13.2 points per game in 2010-11, adding 169 rebounds, 106 assists and 43 steals.

#12 Andrew Bock

(6-2/G/SO/Rialto, Calif./Creighton University)

Andrew redshirted the 2010-11 season due to NCAA transfer rules but was able to practice with the Tigers ... Andrew attended Creighton University his freshman year of college ... At Creighton, Bock played in 21 games, averaging 8 minutes and 2.1 points and making 82.8% of his free throws.

#3 Marvin Cotton

(6-4/G/SR/Lathrop, Calif./Cal State Stanislaus)

Marvin redshirted the 2010-11 season for the Tigers ... He was able to practice most of the season... Marvin came to Pacific from Cal State Stanislaus, where he played as a freshman in the 2008-09 season... In his lone season at CSU Stanislaus, Marvin averaged 6.3 minutes, 2.6 points and 0.5 assists in 18 games

#30 Rodrigo De Souza

(6-2/G/JR/Sao Paulo, Brazil/Western Wyoming CC)

In his sophomore season at Western Wyoming Community College, Rodrigo helped lead WWCC to a 28-11 record in 2010-11 ... He averaged 9.7 points and led the team with 3.3 assists and 1.8 steals per game, earning All-Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference Second Team honors.

#4 Markus Duran

(6-0/G/JR/Murray, Utah/Cabrillo College)

In his sophomore year at Cabrillo College in Aptos, Calif., Duran averaged 19.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game ... In addition to posting an 85% success rate from the free throw line, Markus led the league in shots from the arc and set the record for most three's made in a season with 125 ... Duran was voted MVP of the Coast Conference South.

#21 Adam Eakles

(6-8/F/SO/Woodland, Calif./Fullerton College)

In 2010-11, Adam averaged 9.3 points and had a team-best 9.3 rebounds per game for the Hornets ... Against Cypress College on Feb. 9, he posted season highs with 22 points and 10 rebounds for his lone double-double of the season.

#10 Markcus Falley

(6-3/G/SO/Las Vegas, Nev./Oxnard JC)

Markcus was a First Team All-Western State Conference selection in 2010-11, leading the Oxnard Condors with 19.0 points per game, 81 three-pointers and 54 steals ... In conference play, he averaged 20.7 points per game, including four games of 30 points or more... He helped Oxnard JC to 16 wins and its first appearance in the state JC tournament in eight years.

#24 Travis Fulton

(6-6/F/JR/Corona, Calif./Irvine Valley College)

Travis earned First Team All-State honors as a sophomore in 2010-11, leading the Lasers to a 23-8 overall record and 8-4 mark in Orange Empire Conference action ... Travis led the team with averages of 16.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, while handing off 71 assists ... He had seven double-doubles as a sophomore.

#1 Trevin Harris

(6-6/F/SO/Kingwood, Texas/Western Wyoming CC)

Trevin averaged 13.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while shooting 52.0 percent from the field and 46.0 percent from three-point range ... Playing alongside Tiger teammate Rodrigo De Souza, Harris helped the Mustangs to a seventh place national finish at the NJCAA National Tournament.


#13 Khalil Kelley

(6-8/C/SO/Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos HS)

Khalil played in 24 games last year for the Tigers in 2010-11 ... He scored 34 points, including a career-high nine points against Cal State Stanislaus on Dec. 11... Kelley also notched a career-high four rebounds at home against UC Irvine on Feb. 16

#5 Spencer Llewellyn

(6-3/G/FR/Sydney, Australia/Sydney Boys HS)

Spencer practiced with the men's basketball program in 2010-11, while redshirting his first year. While at Sydney Boys High, he played at a state and national level and traveled with the Australian Schoolboys squad to the United States in 2009 ... Llewellyn earned Most Valuable Player honors in both 2008 and 2009.




#11 Lorenzo McCloud

(6-0/G/JR/Los Angeles, Calif./Santa Rosa JC)

McCloud spent his sophomore season at Santa Rosa Junior College, earning First Team All-State and First Team All-Big 8 Conference honors... Lorenzo led the team by averaging 18.2 points and 3.8 assists per game ... He made a team-best 173 free throws, hitting 80.8 percent from the line ... Scoring 565 points on the season.


#41 Rundell Mauge

(7-1/C/JR/Cedres, Trinidad/North Platte CC)

Rundell redshirted his first year at Pacific... He averaged 5.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 blocks in 35 games played en route to the national junior college basketball tournament ... Mauge was named to the National Junior College Region IX All-Tournament team at the regional playoffs.

#20 Ross Rivera

(6-7/F/SO/Visalia, Calif./Coll. of the Sequoias)

Rivera averaged 16.2 points and 6.0 rebounds in his only collegiate season ... He tallied six double-doubles on the season, scoring in double figures in all but one game of the 2010-11 season ... Ross scored a career-best 26 points three times as a freshman... Leading College of the Sequoias to the tournament title at the Cuesta College Tournament in November, he earned Most Valuable Player honors.

#42 Tim Thomas

(6-10/C/JR/Sheridan, Wyom./Las Positas JC)

In 2009-10, Tim averaged 7.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Las Positas Hawks ... In 2010-11, he averaged 9.9 points and 6.1 rebounds per game ... Scoring in double figures 17 times as a sophomore.

#25 Jordan Turner

(6-5/F/JR/Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd HS)

Jordan played in 16 games last season for the Tigers, making one start ... He scored five points, grabbed five rebounds and hit both of his shots from the field... Jordan played in five games in 2009-10 for the Tigers ... He had a career-high three rebounds against Sacramento State on Dec. 12.
