Career Weekend Lands Petty Big West Player Of The Week Award
For the first time in her young career, sophomore Taylor Petty was named the Big West's Player of the Week for the week ending on April 15. The sophomore led the Tigers to a 4-1 record over the week's action to earn the weekly honor. Petty's honor marked the second straight week a Tiger has earned the award and the fifth time this season.
Producing a career week, Petty was instrumental in the Tigers' success of the week, a week that included a three-game sweep of Cal State Fullerton at Bill Simoni Field. Against the Titans, Petty went 6-for-9 as she picked up three extra-base hits including two doubles and her second career home run. Additionally, the sophomore drove in a career-high four runs in two of the three games as she bookeneded the Tigers' sweep of the Titans with her four-RBI performances. Defensively, Petty was stellar as well, throwing out the tying-run at the plate in the fifth inning of game-one to keep the Tigers ahead before breaking open the game with a pair of RBI in the bottom half of the inning.
Against Santa Clara, Petty proved her mettle as she pinch hit in the seventh with the game tied at 5-5 and drove home the game-winning run on the second pitch she saw. The game-winning RBI was the first of two for the sophomore on the week as she also picked up the game-winning strike in game one against Cal State Fullerton.
For the week, Petty went 7-for-13 (.538) while nine RBI and two runs scored. In conference play against the Titans, Petty hit .667 in the three-game series with eight RBI.
