Pacific Women's Basketball Visits SEC Foe Florida Friday

Dec 6, 2012

The Pacific women's basketball team hits the road for a meeting at SEC foe Florida on Friday in Gainesville. The Tigers and Gators will tip off at 4 p.m. PT.

The Tigers remain unbeaten at 7-0 following Monday's win at San Jose State. The Gators enter at 6-3 on the season. Friday's contest will air locally on on KWSX 1280 AM in Stockton, with audio available online at PacificTigers.com. Florida will over streaming video as part of a subscription service at GatorZone.com.

"We're excited to visit the O'Connell Center and play an SEC team on the road," head coach Lynne Roberts said. "It's a long road trip, but I think it's a great opportunity for our program. We know it's going to be a challenge to play Florida on the road, but we're looking forward to it."

Florida owns wins over Fairfield, Georgia State, North Florida, NC State, Northern Iowa and Troy, while falling to Florida State, Arizona State, Michigan. The Gators posted an 87-62 win Tuesday over Troy in their last contest.

Friday's game is the second meeting between the two schools all-time, and the return trip to Florida after the Gators visited Stockton last season. Pacific picked up a 78-73 win last season at the Alex G. Spanos Center. The Tigers hit 11 three-pointers on 16 attempts last December, and Pacific never trailed in the second half. Florida tied the score twice, but Kendall Rodriguez slammed the door with seven points in the final 29 seconds. Erica McKenzie tallied a season-high 23 points, hitting seven of eight from three-point range. The Gators went on to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.

Pacific's 7-0 start is the second-best in school history, behind only the 1980-81 team that opened the year 9-0.

The Tigers game against the Gators will be Pacific's second of four consecutive road games, as the Tigers visit No. 1 Stanford on Dec. 15, and Saint Mary's on Dec. 20 before returning to Spanos Center on December 29 for a game against San Francisco.
