Pacific Baseball Welcomes No. 2 Stanford To Klein Tuesday At 6 pm
The Pacific baseball team returns home to face No. 2 Stanford on Tuesday in a 6 p.m. contest at Klein Family Field.
The Tigers (0-3) will be playing the fourth of five-straight games against ranked opponents. Pacific opened the season against No. 22 Cal, and will face No. 21 Oregon State in San Diego on Thursday.
Pacific will send LHP Kyle Crawford to the mound Tuesday. Crawford (0-0, 4.50 ERA) tossed two innings against No. 22 Cal on Saturday out of the bullpen. He allowed two hits and one earned run while striking out three.
Stanford (3-0) opened the season with a sweep of No. 10 Vanderbilt. The Cardinal starter is listed as TBA, but candidates include RHP Sahil Bloom and RHP Elliott Byers.
Neither Bloom, a 6-2 junior, or Byers, a 6-3 senior, have pitched this season for Stanford. Byers was 0-0 last season with an 8.26 ERA in six appearances. He struck out seven in 7.2 innings of action. Bloom went 1-0 last year in five games, fanning eight in 10 innings of work while posting a 0.90 ERA.
Pacific was in each of the contests against No. 22 Cal this weekend, before falling in the late innings. The Tigers trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth on Friday in Berkeley, 4-3 after six on Saturday at home, and tied 3-3 entering the bottom of the eighth on Sunday. The Golden Bears tallied 12 of their 24 runs in the series in innings seven through nine.
Following Tuesday's contest, Pacific will head to San Diego for a four-game weekend, beginning with a neutral site game against No. 21 Oregon State at 2 p.m. on Thursday at USD's Cunningham Stadium.On Friday, the Tigers will face co-host San Diego, also at Cunningham Stadium, with first pitch at 2 p.m. Saturday, Pacific heads to San Diego State, for a meeting with the Aztecs at Tony Gwynn Stadium at 6 p.m. The Tigers wrap the tournament at USD for another contest with the Toreros at 11 am.
