Pharmacy Students to Host Inaugural Mentorship Day

Mar 2, 2012

On Wednesday, March 7, 2012, Pacific Outreach for Youth Services and Education (POYSE) will hosting nearly 100 high school students, grades 9-12, from Bear Creek and Stagg High School for their inaugural Mentorship Day. High school students will have the opportunity to partner with one of 50 pharmacy students who will serve as mentors and share their stories about pursuing higher education, becoming a leader in the profession, and making a difference in the community.

POYSE is a brand new program under Pacific's International Pharmaceutical Sciences Federation (IPSF).  The purpose of POYSE is to promote youth interest in higher education, using pharmacy students as role models and mentors, and to provide high school students with information and advice on how to pursue and succeed in higher education, as well as providing education on teen health issues. In addition to the Mentorship Day, POYSE has conducted workshops at local Stockton high schools, including providing information on financial aid and providing ways to be a competitive college applicant.
