Pacific Men's Volleyball Fall To No. 4 Stanford 3-0
The No. 15 Pacific men's volleyball team took on the No. 4 Stanford Cardinal to open the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) season in the Alex G. Spanos Center on Wednesday, Jan. 11. The Tigers battled all night, but dropped the match 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-19). Leading the Tigers offense was sophomore Adam Troy who finished the match with eight kills. On the opposite side of the pins, senior Sean Daley led Pacific with five blocks.
The Tigers took an early 7-4 first set advantage against Stanford, but the Cardinal rallied to take the initial game. Leading Pacific in the first set was junior Taylor Hughes with four kills and a block. Junior Patrick Tunnell finished the set with nine of his 29 assists on the night. Senior Florian Gornik added three digs in the first game to help the Tigers cause. Pacific finished the first set hitting a set-best .318.
The second set was all Stanford as the Cardinal jumped out to a 16-8 second game lead. Troy led Pacific's second game with three kills. As Daley a Moorpark, Calif. native added two blocks in the second frame for the Tigers.
However, the Tigers would continue to battle in the third set led by Troy and Christian Ahlin with three kills each. As Hughes added two blocks in the final set for Pacific.
Leading the Cardinal attack was Brian Cook who finished with a match-high 13 kills, while hitting .478.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, Jan. 13 against the No. 14 Loyola Ramblers at 7 p.m. in the Alex G. Spanos Center.
