Read To Me Stockton
Pictured here Stockton Mayor Ann Johnston and Debra Keller of Stockton Unified School District are interviewed by a group of Communication students who are creating a video for the Mayor's book club, the "Read To Me Stockton" project. "Read To Me Stockton" is an initiative to establish and maintain a collaborative partnership among University of the Pacific, Stockton Unified School District, the City of Stockton, the San Joaquin Public Library, Rotary Club of Stockton and United Way of San Joaquin County. The goals are to ensure that all children in certain zip code areas have access to high quality books from infancy to age five; that parents learn strategies to assist in developing literacy approaches to school readiness; and improve the literacy skills of incoming preschool and kindergarten students at target schools in San Joaquin County. So far, more than 700 children have registered for the club. For more information or to participate, visit http://stocktonrotary.org/.
