Tigers Drop 76-73 Decision At Home To CSUB

Pacific suffered a tough loss to CSU Bakersfield on Tuesday, January 17, dropping a 76-73 decision. With the loss, the Tigers fell to 5-12. The Roadrunners improved to 11-9 on the season with the win.

Pacific took control of the tip and scored consecutive baskets to take an early 4-0 lead over the Roadrunners. CSU Bakersfield posted an 8-0 run to take an 8-4 lead with 14:23 remaining in the half. Pacific responded with a 5-0 run of their own to take a 9-8 lead before a three-pointer by CSU Bakersfield's Issiah Grayson gave the Roadrunners an 11-9 lead. Junior Ross Rivera tied the game at 11-11 with a layup in the paint, but CSU Bakersfield scored four quick points to put the Roadrunners up 15-11 with 10:51 left on the clock. Pacific responded with a 7-3 run, ignited by a three-pointer from junior Travis Fulton, and tied the game at 18-18 with 7:38 on the game clock. CSU Bakersfield took a 22-18 lead before the Tigers scored seven of the next nine points to take a 25-24 lead with 3:57 to play in the half. Pacific and CSU Bakersfield exchanged baskets over the next two minutes, tying the game for the fourth time in the half, before the Roadrunners broke away with a 9-1 run to take an eight point lead and enter halftime leading the Tigers 37-29.

Pacific and the Roadrunners exchanged baskets over the opening minutes of the second half, but CSU Bakersfield broke the game open with a 14-5 run to take a 17-point lead at 59-42 with 10:35 left in the game. After the Roadrunners capped off their run with two straight three-pointers, the Tigers roared to life. Beginning with a three-pointer from junior Andrew Bock, Pacific proceeded to drop an 11-0 run on CSUB over the next three minutes to pull within six at 59-53 with 7:42 left in the game. Junior Lorenzo McCloud scored four points in the stretch. Grayson dropped in a three-pointer to give the Roadrunners a 62-53 lead before the Tigers posted a 9-2 run capped by a trey from junior Markus Duran to cut the Roadrunner lead to three (65-62) with 4:14 left in the game. Pacific kept clawing back, posting yet another gritty 8-2 run, and took a 70-69 lead on a floating layup from junior Colin Beatty with 1:19 to play. After a converted three-point play gave the Roadrunners the lead, McCloud converted one of his own to give the Tigers a 73-72 lead with exactly a minute left in regulation. CSUB's Donald Johnson scored with :49 seconds left and a Tiger turnover converted into a pair of free throws gave the Roadrunners a 76-73 lead with :10 second to play. Duran missed a three-pointer with five ticks left, as time expired.

Fulton posted his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds. McCloud led the team with 19 points and five assists, followed by 11 points from Duran and 10 points from Rivera. Pacific shot 56.0 percent from the field, while hitting 21 of 27 shots inside the three-point line. The game featured five ties and 13 lead changes.
