Pacific To Host Time Out For Reading Promotion This Saturday
University of the Pacific's Athletic Department, along with the Benerd School of Education and the Library & Literacy Foundation for San Joaquin County are teaming up to "Take a Time Out for Reading" promotion as the Pacific Men's Basketball plays host to UC Santa Barbara this Saturday, January 28th at the Alex G. Spanos Center. Doors open at 4 p.m. and tip off time is set for 5 p.m. The game will be televised by Comcast.
All fans are invited to show their support for San Joaquin County's literacy movement by joining the Tigers in a special "timeout for reading" promotion during the first half. The timeout is part of a special night dedicated towards education and will help demonstrate that Stockton cares about reading. Friends and guests from the Stockton Unified School District Step It Up After School program will also be in attendance that evening.
All fans that bring one or more new or gently used children's books to the game will receive a ticket to the game for just $5. All books will be collected during halftime as a donation for the Reach Out & Read San Joaquin program. This program promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by providing books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading often and reading aloud.
Children ages 12 & under are admitted free for all Pacific Athletic events, courtesy of Wells Fargo. For more information contact the Pacific Marketing Office at 209-946-2718. The event is one of numerous Pacific reading efforts that include a reading mentor program, partnerships with local organizations and student-run book drives.
