Pacific & the Rotary Read In

Mar 8, 2012

Provost Maria Pallavicini and staff members from her office, as well as from Enrollment and Admissions, will read to school children on Wednesday, March 21 as participants in the annual Rotary Read-In. Volunteers in the offices adopted Don Riggio School and will go to the school's site to read to students. Other Pacific units are welcome to adopt a school. Staff members who want to volunteer individually must have the Volunteer Community Service Request Form completed and approved by their immediate supervisor. The form and policy is available online.

Rotary Read-In is a 20 year-old, annual event in which community members spend an hour in the morning at a Stockton school reading to a class. In the past, Pacific students, faculty and staff have participated in the event, which is being organized by Lee Neves, community relations manager of the local Barnes and Noble bookstore. If a unit adopts a school for the March 21 Read-In and provide readers, Barnes and Noble will:

  1.  Make the books being read available for purchase in the campus bookstore and donate copies to the school library.
  2.  Provide a list of suggested books from which readers may select.
  3.  Arrange for a portion of the purchase price of books for the Read-in to be donated to a non-profit organization of the unit's choosing.

To adopt a school, or for more information, contact Lee Neves at 209.472.1676 or Bob Benedetti of the Jacoby Center at 209.946.7478.
