Tigers Drop Regular Season Finale At Cal Poly

The Pacific men's basketball team dropped a 67-38 decision at Cal Poly on Saturday, March 3. With the loss, the Tigers dropped to 11-18 and finished 6-10 in Big West Conference play. The Mustangs improved to 17-14 and 8-8 in league action.

After falling behind 5-2 in the opening minutes, the Tigers took a 14-9 lead with 12:29 to play. Junior Travis Fulton scored seven points in the first eight minutes, including a three-pointer. The Mustangs turned it around, using an 11-2 run to take a 20-16 lead with 8:27 to go. Sophomore Ross Rivera scored on a layup with 4:40 to play in the half to make it a 27-24 Cal Poly lead, but the Tigers wouldn't score again in the half. Pacific was 0-4 from the field and committed four turnovers in the final 4:40.

The Mustangs pushed the lead up to 15 in the early part of the second half. With a 43-30 lead, Cal Poly used a 14-2 run to take a 57-32 lead with 7:32 left and the lead stayed above 20 the rest of the way. Pacific shot just 18.2% from the field in the second half, including 0-11 from three-point range.

Fulton led the Tigers with nine points and six rebounds. Pacific shot 31.1 percent from the field for the game, while the Mustangs were at 54.3 percent.

The Tigers will next be in action at the ampm Big West Tournament on Thursday, Mar. 8. Pacific will take on UC Santa Barbara / Cal Poly in a quarterfinal matchup at 12:00 p.m.
