Women's Soccer Announces 2012 Schedule
Home games against Cal, Boston College, Oregon, Arizona and Sacramento State in non-conference, three games against Pac-12 teams and three games against WCC opponents, and a larger Big West schedule highlight the 2012 women's soccer schedule announced Monday by head coach Keith Coleman.
Pacific will face five NCAA Tournament participants from last season: Cal, Boston College, Pepperdine in non-conference and Big West foes Long Beach State and UC Irvine.
"We have put together one of our most demanding schedules in program history featuring three Pac-12, three WCC and No. 7 Boston College," head coach Keith Coleman said, "We are excited about the challenge that our preseason teams will present and believe those games will prepare our team for Big West play. With our conference being ranked as the number eight women's soccer conference in the country we need to play the best teams we can to prepare."
The Tigers will open the 2012 campaign on Friday, August 10, hosting Sacramento State at 7 pm. The Tigers will welcome the first of three Pac-12 opponents on Friday, August 17, taking on the Cal Golden Bears in Stockton at 7 pm.
On Friday, August 24, the Tigers will visit San Francisco for a 3 p.m. kickoff and then travel to Pepperdine for a Sunday, August 26 meeting with the Waves in Malibu
On Thursday, August 30, Pacific's third-straight road game will take them to San Jose State, before returning home to face Atlantic Coast opponent Boston College on Sunday, Sept. 2.
On Friday, Sept. 7, Oregon will visit Stockton for a 7 pm kickoff before a Sept. 14 road contest at Colorado College. The Tigers visit West Coast Conference foe Saint Mary's on Thursday, Sept. 20 before wrapping the non-conference schedule at home against Arizona on Sunday Sept. 23, at noon.
Big West play opens on Sept. 28, as the Tigers visit Cal Poly and then travel to UC Santa Barbara on Sept. 30. Pacific returns home to face UC Davis on Sunday, Oct. 7, and then plays host to UC Irvine (Oct. 12) and Long Beach State (Oct. 14) for a home conference weekend.
The Tigers next road trip starts at Cal State Northridge (Oct. 19), an continues with the Tigers' first Big West match-up with new conference member Hawai'i on the road on Oct. 21. The Rainbow Wahine were members of the Big West in women's sports from 1984-1996, departing prior to the first season of Big West women's soccer in the fall of 1996.
Pacific will wrap the Big West regular season at home, meeting UC Riverside (Oct. 26) and Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 28) before the Big West tournament begins on Thursday, Nov. 1, with the top two seeds hosting the third and fourth seeds. The Big West finals will be played at the site of the highest remaining seed on Nov. 4 with the conference's automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament on the line.The Tigers lost five players to graduation, and will have 17 players returning from last season's squad for the 2012 season.
