Pacific Welcomes New Multi-faith Chaplain

Jul 5, 2012

The Division of Student Life invites the Pacific community to welcome Pacific's new Multi-Faith Chaplain, Dr. Joel Lohr. Lohr arrives on campus this week with a wealth of expertise and experience that promises to be of benefit to the learning and spiritual development of students and the University community.

An internationally recognized and award winning scholar in Jewish-Christian dialogue, interpretation of sacred texts, and religious education in the academy, Lohr will contribute perspective and momentum in facilitating religious literacy and interfaith understanding as a part of the development of intercultural capacity. He also offers extensive experience and commitment to pastoral care, crisis response, teaching, international higher education and community engagement. Lohr comes to Pacific from Trinity Western University and the University of Toronto where he served as an assistant professor of Religious Studies and a visiting scholar, respectively. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts in Theology and Religion from the University of Durham in Durham, England, and his Bachelor of Arts from Trinity Western University in British Columbia, Canada.

The University community will be invited to a welcome reception in Dr. Lohr's honor in the early fall. In the meantime, all Pacificans are invited to stop by his new office on the second floor of Sears Hall and welcome him to the Pacific community.
