Reach For The Stars Students Celebrate Milestone
Students with Pacific's Reach for The Stars Academy on July 12 celebrated the completion of their second year of the exciting math, science and engineering summer-enrichment program. The ceremony took place at Long Theatre and highlighted Verizon Wireless's generous $20,000 grant to support the program. In its second year, the Academy now serves 84 students from 11 schools. The four-year program is intended to expose high school sixth- through ninth-grade students to higher education and potential careers in engineering through math and science projects they can easily grasp. Reach for the Stars is a cornerstone of Pacific President Pamela A. Eibeck's Beyond or Gates and Tomorrow Project initiatives to broaden the university's involvement in the Stockton community and improve the lives and educational experiences of children particularly from academically struggling schools and impoverished neighborhoods.
