WWP Sees Four Named To ACWPC Academic All-America Team

Pacific Women's Water Polo saw four of its student-athletes named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Academic All-America team, announced by the organization Tuesday, July 10.

Senior Kim Kay and sophomores Elise Martin, Malena Prlain and Michele Relton were named to the team. Kay, Martin and Relton earned all-academic honors for the second consecutive season.

Martin and Prlain received Superior recognition, given to those student-athletes with GPA's between 3.70 and 3.41. Kay and Relton received Excellent recognition, presented to those student-athletes with GPA's between 3.40 and 3.20.

The four were also named to the 2012 Big West All-Academic team.

As a team, Pacific finished the 2011-12 academic year with a 3.060 GPA, ranking 18th in the nation.

Over 250 student-athletes qualified for this year's all-academic team, one of the largest fields in the organization's history. The Big West saw 21 of its student-athletes named to the team.

To be selected to the ACWPC Academic All-America team, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and must have competed in at least 50-percent of their team's matches during the past season.
