Welcome to the Pacific Insider
To the University community:
Welcome to the inaugural edition of Pacific Insider, University of the Pacific's e-newsletter! Pacific Insider will go out every Monday to faculty and staff on all three campuses, as part of my commitment to enhanced internal communications. Replacing the Bulletin and e-news, Pacific Insider will include key announcements, current events and policy updates. I encourage everyone to read it each week, and to help keep it current by sharing their unit's news and events. Thanks go to Richard Rojo and the Office of Communication for their excellent work to get Pacific Insider up and running, especially Patrick Giblin, Sheri Grimes, Christopher Heredia, Katie Ismael, Kerry Lechich, Tanya Lopez, John McClimans and Clayton Spowart.
Let me also take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2012-2013 academic year. We have begun the year on an outstanding note: Thanks to your collective effort and the strong leadership of Provost Maria Pallavicini and her team, WASC recently reaffirmed our accreditation. We have also just released Pacific 2020, our bold new strategic plan. Pacific 2020 comes out of a year of deep engagement by the entire University community to plan our future. It recognizes the changes happening in higher education, and positions us well to capitalize on new opportunities that will enhance the superior education we provide. Please take a look at all the details at go.pacific.edu/planning. My sincere thanks go to everyone involved in this crucial work, especially Provost Pallavicini, the Strategic Planning Committee and the Planning and Innovation team.
Another key event coming up this fall is the beginning of the Beyond Our Gates Community Council's early literacy campaign in San Joaquin County. Mark your calendars for September 17, when we will kick off the campaign at a Beyond Our Gates Dialogue with Ralph Smith, senior vice president of the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
In closing, I wish the entire Pacific family a successful academic year. I look forward to keeping in close touch with you throughout this exciting time of engagement, change and growth.
