Erdelyi Earns MPSF All-Tournament Honors
Junior attacker Balazs Erdelyi was named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Tournament Team, as announced by the conference office Monday.
The Hungarian attacker scored two goals in each of Pacific's three games last weekend in Los Angeles, leading the Tigers to a sixth-place finish for the second consecutive season. Pacific's sixth-place finish was one better than their seed entering the tournament and a marked improvement over their ninth-place slot in the pre-season coaches' poll at the beginning of the season.
Erdelyi nearly led the Tigers to a first-round upset over No. 2 UCLA, scoring both of his goals in the second quarter as Pacific built a three-goal advantage midway through the frame. His two scores in Pacific's win over sixth-seeded Pepperdine came late in the match as the Tigers turned a slim one-goal advantage into an insurmountable three-score lead as time ran out on the Waves. Erdelyi finished the weekend with two goals in Pacific's hard-fought loss to Long Beach State in the tournament's fifth-place match.
Erdelyi finished the year with 83 goals to lead the conference. His 3.46 goals-per-game average also topped the league and was one of only two greater than 3.00. He racked up 21 multi-goal games on the year, including five four-goal outings, four five-goal showings and a pair of six-goal performances. He went for a career-best nine goals in the Tigers' rout of Santa Clara back in October.
