Simkovic Snags MPSF Athlete Of The Week Honors

Oct 17, 2012

Junior Oliver Simkovic was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Male Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference office Wednesday, Oct. 17.

Simkovic highlighted the Tigers' opening meet at two-time defending NCAA Champion California last Wednesday, Oct. 10. He placed second in the 200 Back (1:50.92), beating two California swimmers in the process. He also finished fifth in the 100 Back (52.53) for Pacific's top time, and swam a 4:06.30 in the 400 IM, which was the third fastest time in that event.

The Austrian native is coming off of a spectacular sophomore campaign that saw him take home titles in the 200 Back and 400 IM at the 2012 MPSF Championships. His 200 Back time of 1:45.65 broke his own conference record set last year. Simkovic earned three NCAA "B" cut times at the league championships.

The Tigers' first home competition comes this weekend in the form of the 21st annual Pacific Invitational. The two-day meet begins Friday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. before resuming Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m.
