IPSF Host 2nd Annual Pacific Without Borders
Food and entertainment representing different cultures highlighted the 2nd Annual International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF) Pacific Without Borders on July 9, 2012. Nearly 120 students, faculty, and community members were in attendance to enjoy international cuisine and cultural performances. Local restaurants such as The AVE on the Mile, Maria's Café, and Swagat Indian Cuisine donated food to help the students celebrate the night.
The night also included the popular fraternity cook-off competition where Kappa Psi, Phi Delta Chi, Lambda Kappa Sigma, and Rho Pi Phi competed for first place. Each fraternity was asked to create a dish using the secret ingredient tomato. Faculty judges include Dr. Donald Floriddia '71, Dr. Katerina Venderova, Dr. Rajul Patel '01, 06, and Tea. Phi Delta Chi wowed the judges with their "Match Made in Heaven" dish and strawberry macaroon and crème brule.
Every spring IPSF sponsors an international exchange student to visit Pacific for two weeks with the Pacific Without Borders event as the last stop on their trip. This year they hosted Andrea Baricevic, a fifth year student pharmacist at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
"I really enjoyed my visit which allowed me to see the differences between Croatia and the United States, in both the culture and the academics. I will miss all of you.", commented Baricevic.
The purpose of Pacific Without Borders is to support student pharmacists attending IPSF's 58th Annual World Congress in Hurghada, Egypt, where students will gain knowledge on global health issues and fundraise for IPSF's international initiatives.Susan Deng '15, IPSF Co-chair, recently returned from the 58th Annual World Congress in Egypt.
