Pacific Women's Soccer Draws UCSB, 3-3
The Pacific women's soccer team tallied three goals in a 3-3 draw at UC Santa Barbara on Sunday behind goals from Maricella Padilla, Shayda Ansari and Zarette Munoz-Aguilar.
Padilla tallied her sixth goal of the season to open the scoring for Pacific. In the 32nd minute, the junior Padilla ripped a pass from sophomore Mirella Mattos into the back of the net from 25 yards away to tie the match at 1-1. UC Santa Barbara had taken a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute, when the Gauchos' Indiana Mead had a long run culminate with a shot inside the right post.
Just under three minutes after Padilla's goal, the Tigers took a 2-1 lead as Kortney Agdeppa sent a cross into the box, which Ansari finished into the left side of the goal in the 35th minute. It was first collegiate goal for Ansari, the freshman from Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Pacific out-shot UCSB 11-9 in the first half, with each team tallying five shots on target.
In the 57th minute, the Tigers stretched the lead to 3-1 as Munoz-Aguilar scored headed home a cross from Lauren Olvera for her second goal of the year.
However, a minute later, the Gauchos climbed back into the match off an own goal when a pass back toward the keeper was too far inside and with too much pace to be stopped from finding the twine.
The Gauchos completed the comeback in the 87th minute, as Sara Feder headed in a cross from the right corner by Dyanne Anderson.
The two sides played 20 minutes of scoreless overtime, with Pacific out-shooting UCSB 3-1. Olvera's shot in the 104th minute was stopped by USCB goalkeeper Makenna Henry, the only save of extra time.
For the match, the Tigers out-shot the Gauchos 18-16, while shots on goal were knotted at 8-8. The physical match featured 38 combined fouls.
Following the draw, each team sits at 0-1-1 in Big West play. The Tigers first tie of the season puts their record on the year at 3-7-1, while UCSB owns a 3-7-2 mark.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, at home against UC Davis for a 7 pm kickoff.
