For the first time in her young career, freshman Kat Schulz was named the Big West Player of the Week for the week ending on Sept. 2. The award was the first of the season for the Tigers as Schulz earned the award from the conference in just her second week of collegiate volleyball.

Playing in front of her home crowd for the first time in her career, Schulz put together a stellar weekend to help lead the Tigers to a perfect 3-0 record and the Community Bankers Classic title. For her play throughout the tournament, Schulz was named the Classic's Most Valuable Player as she posted 32 kills on .370 hitting while tallying 40 digs and three blocks in three matches.

Schulz posted her first two career double-doubles on the weekend as the freshman posted 15 kills and 14 digs against Nevada before tallying 10 kills and 12 digs in the finale. Against Nevada, Schulz hit a team season-best .560 as the freshman committed just one error on 25 attacks. On the rightside, she was the second best defender on the court for the Tigers as she averaged 4.44 digs per set as she posted double-digit digs in all three matches.
