The Pacific McGeorge Elder & Health Law Clinic presented it first Senior Financial Health & Safety Fair on the morning of Sat. April 6, 2013 in the student center on campus. Fair organizer and clinical legal fellow Katie Roe '12 gave welcoming remarks, and the California Department of Corporations' Commissioner of Corporations Jan Lynn Owen delivered the keynote address. Professor Melissa Brown, supervising attorney for the Elder and Health Law clinic, also addressed the crowd of fair attendees.

More than 120 seniors took advantage of this "one stop" opportunity to obtain materials, become educated about financial safety and protection, and receive free health screenings and legal check-ups.  "Senior Legal Check-Ups" and consumer/debtor consultations were provided by more than 25 Pacific McGeorge alumni volunteers, law students and faculty. Free blood pressure screening, vision tests, and fall assessment provided the U.C. Davis School of Medicine, Department of Public Health Sciences. Funding was made possible in part by the Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health.

More than 27 exhibitors provided information for seniors on subjects including bankruptcy, caregiver resources, financial solutions, insurance, elder health law, domestic violence, transportation and more. Plans are to make the event an annual one, and Roe says many of the exhibitors have already expressed the desire to return next year.

Digital Journal interviewed Katie Roe and published an article about the fair, "Law school holds first annual Financial Health Fair for Seniors."
