Holiday Giving Opportunities 2013Opportunities abound across the Pacific community help those in need during the holiday season, including those most recenty affected by the devastating typhoon in the Philippines.
The spirit of giving is alive throughout the University community as the holiday season approaches. There are many ways to help those in need and make a difference in the community, as organizations and groups throughout the University are coordinating a variety of outreach efforts this winter. In addition to the annual Holiday ROAR book drive, below are other ways to contribute in making a difference for someone this holiday season:
Adopt-A-Family - Nov. 6 - Dec. 6 - FAMILIES STILL AVAILABLE!
Pacific's Community Outreach Committee and the Staff Advisory Council have chosen to support the Women's Center of San Joaquin County DAWN House and Youth and Family Services this holiday season. Individuals and departments may sign up to adopt a needy family to provide a happy holiday, with gifts, food and clothing. Information will be provided specific to each family. Stockton Campus Food Drive - Nov. 6 - Dec. 20
Pacific's Community Outreach Committee will be taking over the Grove to collect food donations. A box has been placed in the Grove for donations. Students are invited participate by contributing their dining dollars to assist folks in our community. Volunteers for St. Mary's Interfaith Dining Hall - Nov. 22 & 28, Dec. 6 & 20
Volunteers are needed to serve lunch from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following dates: Friday, Nov. 22; Thursday, Nov. 28 (Thanksgiving); Friday, Dec. 6; Friday, Dec. 20. Pediatric Study Club Toys for Tots Drive - Nov. 18 - Dec. 16
Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry's Pediatric Study Club will be collecting new, unwrapped toys to benefit underserved children through the Toys for Tots Foundation. Students from the study club will staff donation boxes during lunch breaks and help to increase awareness for the toy drive. Donation bins will also be available all day outside the Business Office located on the 5th floor. Dugoni Holiday Food Drive - Dec. 9 -19

Pacific Tigers Magical Night of Giving - Dec. 14 & 15
The Tigers invite you to show your spirit this Holiday Season by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to the Pacific Men's Basketball game vs. Menlo College on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. and the Pacific Women's Basketball game vs. Hawaii on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 1 p.m. and receive a FREE ticket to the game! All toys collected will be delivered to hospitalized and disadvantaged children in the local community before the holidays. Donations will be accepted on game day starting one hour before game time in front of the main entrance of the Spanos Center. Typhoon Relief - ongoing
On Nov. 8, Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines with sustained winds over 145 miles per hour. Significant damage is continuing to be reported and more than 10,000 died. The Red Cross has activated its family tracing service to help find missing family members by using two telecommunication specialists and a satellite system. The Kilusan Pilipino Club will be collecting donations outside the DeRosa University Center on Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can also contribute to the relief efforts in the Philippines, through the Red Cross at RedCross.org, call 1.800.REDCROSS, or mail to: The American Red Cross, 2453 Grand Canal Blvd., Stockton, CA 95207. You can also donate through the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns at NAFCONUSA.org or call 415.333.6267. Paciic Athletics is excited to announce they raised more than $1,000 for Philippines typhoon relief through donations of loyal fans at home games Nov. 12-17.
Military Appreciation - ongoing
Share your appreciation for the work they do with our men and women in uniform. If you would like to make a card or contribute a non-perishable food item or toiletries, Pacific's Community Outreach committee will ensure that they reach the men and women serving our country. Pacific Food Pantry - ongoing
The Pacific Food Pantry's cupboards are bare. The pantry is an on-campus resource for students, staff and faculty who are facing a food scarcity situation. Donations can also be sent through campus mail marked "Food Pantry." Non-perishable food stuffs and hygiene items are greatly needed. Visit Pacific.edu/FoodPantry for more information.
