Pacific basketball season ramps up with WCC conference play this winterGet your pom-poms, air horns and Pacific wear ready and be prepared to cheer as Pacific basketball enters conference play in the WCC this winter.
Men's and women's basketball will go up against WCC teams during the winter break for the first time since they rejoined the conference they helped found some 60 years ago. The first women's game will be held against Portland at 2 p.m. on Dec. 28 and the first men's game will take place against St. Mary's on Dec. 30 at 8 p.m. Both offer Pacific the home court advantage and make it easy for Tiger fans to show our new league mates what Pacific spirit is all about.
The teams are looking good so far. The men's team moved to 8-1 with the 84-73 win over Menlo College closing out pre-conference play. The women's team moved to 4-4 this past weekend, with only the Dec. 20-21 Long Beach Classic remaining in pre-conference competition. WCC home games start with the Women vs. Portland at 2 p.m. on Dec. 28 and a men's/women's double header on Dec. 30, where the lady Tigers go up against Gonzaga at 5:30 p.m. and the men battle St. Mary's at 8 p.m.
The Tigers men's basketball were the hot mover on the CollegeInsider.com Mid Major Top 25 poll last week, popping up to No. 14. The three men's WCC teams listed the poll (No. 3 Gonzaga and No. 5 Saint Mary's) have combined with Pacific for a record of 22-2. The Pacific women's team also joined four other WCC schools on the Mid-Major Top-25 Poll for the Women's squads this past week.
