Tiger Thursday with Ted Leland for Dec. 19

Dec 19, 2013

Pacific Tigers Athletics

With the holiday's just around the corner, let me first say happy holidays and have a happy new year. This will be the last Tiger Thursday update of the 2013 year so I want to give a special congratulations to all of our teams here at University of the Pacific for a terrific 2013. We here can only be excited for what is to come in 2014 as our transition into the WCC continues to develop.

WCC Action Begins For Basketball
With just one week left of non-conference road contests, the Tigers are finishing up their tuneups for the upcoming WCC season. The men are headed to Vegas to play in the South Point Holiday Classic this weekend while the women head to Long Beach to play in the Long Beach Classic. Those tournaments will be tough tests for both the men and the women and are perfect appetizers for the main course that is the WCC. The women will start conference play on Sat. the 28th with a tilt against Portland at 2:00 pm. On Monday the 30th the men get into the action with a game at 8:00 pm against Saint Mary's which will follow the women who take on Gonzaga at 5:30 pm. This is your chance to see your Tigers take on some of the best teams in the country in conference play so make sure to get your tickets now.

Check Out The New HD Stream
In the move to the WCC the Tigers have upped their game in terms of online broadcasts as Pacific has moved into the HD age. Beginning with the brilliant coverage of the MPSF tournament for men's water polo, we have begun to stream all of our home games live on line in brilliant HD quality. Thanks to Kevin Wilkinson and Matt Uhrich for getting the project off the ground and our new interim Athletics Digital Media Specialist Bill Miller for keeping it all up and running. The broadcasts have been great so far and are only getting better with more time and experience. Check out all of the live feeds online at theW.tv and also on PacificTigers.com.

Sand Volleyball Announces Its 2014 Schedule
Preparing for their second season of sand volleyball, the Tigers have announced their 2014 schedule. Taking advantage of a new on-campus facility, the Tigers will play four dates at home in 2014 that will include six different opponents. Coming off of a successful inaugural sand season in 2013, the Tigers have put together a tough 2014 schedule in hopes of claiming a spot in the AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships. The 2014 championships will be held in early May in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Men's Volleyball To Begin Its Final Season
We are just a little under a month away from the beginning of the men's volleyball season. The Tigers begin their final campaign on Jan. 3 with a trip to the UCSB Tournament. They play at home for the first time in the new year on Friday, Jan. 10 when Grand Canyon comes to town. All home men's volleyball matches will be streamed online free of charge throughout the year on PacificTigers.com.

Track Announces 2014 Schedule
The Track team has announced its 2014 schedule, a campaign that will see the Tigers compete throughout California as well as a season-opening trip to Boulder, Colo. The 2014 NCAA Track and Field West Regionals will be held in Fayetville, Ark. at the end of the season. The action gets started with the USA Junior Cross Country Championships in Boulder on February 15. The USATF event will be hosted at the Flatirons Golf Course, on a 2,000 meter loop course.
