Pacific Picks Up Tough Road Win At Hawai'i
University of the Pacific's men's tennis team posted a 4-3 victory over Hawai'i on Friday, Feb. 15 at the UH Tennis Complex. Pacific swept UH in doubles and were able to win three singles matches to win the overall match, 4-3.
"Today was a very well fought match by the whole team," said Tiger head coach Ryan Redondo. "We didn't play our best tennis but our fitness and fight pulled us through. It was also a very courageous comeback by Senior Alex Golding who was down by three match points and came back to clinch it." In sweeping doubles from the Rainbow Warriors, Alex Golding and Sem Verbeek won at No. 1 and Daniel Alameh and Trevor James were victorius at No. 3. Alex Hamilton and Denis Stolyarov defeated the third pairing of Chas Okamoto and David Schuester to clinch the doubles point with the second win.
Singles began with UH's Okamoto defeating Hamilton on the fourth court, 6-2, 6-4. The Tigers won the next two decisions with Stolvarov and Verbeek each picking up victories. With the match at 2-1 in Pacific's favor, the Rainbow Warriors evened it up with a win at No. 5 by Casnova. That set the stage for the dramatic finish by Golding, rallying to win the second set 7-5 after a 6-4 first set loss. Golding held off three match points and took the deciding set 6-2. Golding's win clinched the match for the Tigers. Pacific is next in action with a 10:00am match against San Diego State on Saturday, Feb. 16 in Honolulu.
