Relton Named Big West Athlete Of The Week
For the first time in her collegiate career, junior goalkeeper Michele Relton has earned Big West Player of the Week honors for the week ending on Jan. 27, announced today by the conference office.
In a little more than two years in Stockton, Relton has established herself as one of the premier goalkeepers in the Big West. She had a stellar showing at the UC Santa Barbara Winter Invitational last weekend, going for a total of 45 saves in Pacific's four matches. She opened the invite with 11 blocks versus No. 3 UCLA before setting a season high with 14 stops in the Tigers' rout of Azusa Pacific.
After recording eight saves in Pacific's upset of then-No. 8 Loyola Marymount, she closed out the weekend with 11 blocks against CSU Bakersfield. The Canadian native has racked up an astounding 679 career saves in her time at Pacific, needing just two blocks to become the school's all-time saves leader.
Relton and the rest of the Tigers are back in action this weekend when they host the second annual Pacific Invitational this Saturday, Feb. 2. Pacific opens the day with a 9 a.m. tilt versus CSU East Bay.
