6 pm Tip For Women's Hoops Thursday At Home in WNIT Sweet 16
The Pacific women's basketball team, in its first-ever appearance in the WNIT Sweet 16, will play host to Utah at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Alex G. Spanos Center in the third round of the WNIT. The Tigers will once again offer free tickets to Pacific students, thanks to a generous donation from members of the Pacific Fastbreak Club.
Additionally, the Pacific women's basketball program will have a T-shirt give away of 500 free shirts and will host a pre-game tailgate party in front of the student entrance with music, free hot dogs, burgers and beverages.
Originally scheduled for 7 p.m., the Tigers moved tip-off to 6 p.m. to accommodate fan who wish to attend University of the Pacific's annual student Spring Concert featuring Seattle rap artist Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
Tickets go on sale at noon at the Pacific Athletics Box Office or online at PacificTigers.com.
A crowd of 1,003 fans watched the Tigers defeat UALR last Friday in the WNIT First Round.
"Our crowd for the first round was outstanding," head coach Lynne Roberts said. "Our team really feeds off the energy they provide. When the students turn up the noise, it makes it harder for the other team. They can provide a tremendous home court advantage for us and we're excited to have another home game in front of our Orange Army. We hope to see even more students and fans at Thursday's game against Utah."
The Tigers (27-7) advanced to the third round by beating Washington, 85-78, in Seattle on Sunday. It was the second straight season Pacific defeated a Pac-12 team in the WNIT. The Tigers will go for a third-straight post-season win against a Pac-12 opponent as the Utes visit for the third round.
Utah is 20-13 overall and finished 8-10 in the Pac-12 this season. The two schools have met three times, twice in Utah and once in the Spanos Center, with the home team taking each contest. Pacific won the last meeting, 68-62, on Dec 28, 2001.
