March Madness Comes to Pacific!

Tiger Men’s Basketball Wins the Big West Title and Will Play in the Big Dance; Women Will Host First Round of the WNIT

The Pacific community will be on the edge of their seats Friday when the Tiger men play in the NCAA Tournament Second Round Matchup while the women compete in Round 1 of the Women's NIT on their home court.

On Friday, March 22, men's basketball will face No. 2 seed Miami in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in Austin, Texas. A viewing party is scheduled at game time, 11:10 a.m., at The Lair in the Don and Karen DeRosa University Center. Food and beverage service will be available.

A limited number of tickets to the game in Austin are still available to the public by calling the Pacific Athletic Foundation (PAF) Office at 209.946.2387. Tickets will be available for $75 with an additional service fee. The game will be aired live nationally by TNT.

This is the ninth NCAA Tournament appearance for the Tigers, who are returning to the "Big Dance" for the first time since 2006. Head Coach Bob Thomason is leading the Tigers to the NCAA's for the fifth time in his 25th and final year as the head coach at Pacific.  Read more at the Men's Basketball site.

Women's Basketball During Big West ChampionshipsMeanwhile, the Tiger women will battle the University of Arkansas Little Rock in the Alex G. Spanos Center in the first round match-up of the Women's NIT. The game starts at 7 p.m., and tickets will be free to students, thanks to ASUOP and generous Pacific boosters.  Tickets for the public are available at $7 each through the Pacific Box Office and by calling 209.946.2UOP.

The women's team clinched a spot in the WNIT after winning the Big West Conference regular-season crown. At 25-7 overall, Pacific has already well exceeded the program record for wins in a season (20), and clinched the program's best-ever win percentage mark. The team's head coach, Lynne Roberts, was named the Big West Coach of the Year and all five Pacific's starters took home individual conference honors. For the second-time in program history, two Tigers, seniors Kendall Rodriguez and Erica McKenzie, earned first team honors. Junior Gena Johnson and sophomore Kendall Kenyon earned second team honors while senior Ashley Wakefield received an honorable mention.  The Tigers return to the WNIT for the second straight season and third time overall.
