Pacific Baseball Plays Host To Fresno State 6 p.m. Tuesday
The Pacific baseball team returns home to Klein Family Field to face Fresno State Tuesday at 6 p.m. The 120th all-time meeting between the Tigers and Bulldogs comes after a 10-year lay-off in the series.
Pacific (6-12) is back at their home ballpark for one of just two March home games. The Tigers posted a pair of wins on an 11-day road trip to 2012 NCAA Super Regional team TCU, No. 24 Oklahoma State and Creighton.
Sophomore OF Taylor Murphy paced Pacific on the seven-game road trip, as he hit .438 with a double, a pair of runs scored and a pair of runs batted in. He also walked twice for a .500 on-base percentage. After being limited to four appearances in the Tigers' first 14 games with a shoulder strain, INF Curtis Gomez returned to the Pacific lineup at No. 24 Oklahoma State and hit .308 (4-for-13) with an RBI the rest of the week. He picked up a pair of hits in Friday's game at Creighton (3/15) and also added a sacrifice and an RBI in Pacific's win over the Blue Jays (3/16).
Fresno State enters the midweek matchup at 4-13 overall, after dropping two of three in their Mountain West opening series against San Diego State.
The Bulldogs and Tigers have met on the diamond 119 times, but haven't played since 2002, with a single mid-week contest in Fresno going to the Bulldogs, 9-2.
Fresno State and Pacific were conference mates from 1972 to 1992, but continued the series out of conference with 10 games in the following 10 years.
The Tigers will start RHP Mike Hager, who has a 5.40 ERA and an 0-2 record in 18.1 innings pitched.
Fresno State will counter with RHP Aaron Gillis, who is 0-1 with an 11.12 ERA in 5.2 innings for the Bulldogs.
