Tigers To Kick Off Inaugural Sand Season On Thursday

For the first time in school history, the Tigers will hit the sand for their inaugural season of NCAA Sand Volleyball as Pacific heads to Moraga on Thursday, March 14 to begin the 2013 season. The Tigers will play at Saint Mary's for the first ever match for both teams as the two sides square off from the Gaels' home courts at the Moraga Commons. Pacific and Saint Mary's will play at 4:30 pm for the first of two meetings between the two teams.

Under the rules of Sand Volleyball a team is composed of five doubles(two-player)teams. The format of the match is five best-of-three set doubles matches. The first two sets of the match are played to 21 points while the tiebreaking third is played to 15. Each doubles match is worth one point. The team meet is won by the team that wins the majority of doubles matches (i.e. best 3 of 5 doubles matches). Three or more points are required to win a team match.
