Interim CIO Appointed

Aug 26, 2013

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce the appointment of John Jones, a highly respected information technology executive, who will serve as Interim Chief Information Officer while the University begins a national search for a new CIO.

Jones has served technology organizations, large and small, stateside and internationally, and in geographically dispersed locations, as an executive at the CIO, COO, and CEO levels. Jones will work closely with Provost Maria Pallavicini and other key University constituents, stakeholders and leadership to create the 2020 Pacific IT Plan. This plan will define the IT vision, strategies, roadmaps and priorities to focus the University's strategic technology planning process, while also driving change in technology capability and services.

"I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to Peggy Kay for assuming leadership responsibilities after the departure of Malik Rahman," Pallavicini said. "While we begin the search (anticipated to take six to nine months) for a permanent CIO, John will play a critical leadership role in developing the 2020 IT Strategic Plan and unifying the IT functions, services and initiatives required to position the University to meet both its near-term and long-term IT needs."

The Interim CIO will oversee the Office of Information Technology, an organization with a staff of about 60 employees, and has responsibility for overall management of centralized computing services in support of the University's teaching, research and administrative programs.
