Men's Water Polo's Obert Training With U.S. Men's National Team

May 16, 2013

Pacific Men's Water Polo's Alex Obert is currently training with the U.S. Men's Senior National Team in preparation for the FINA Water Polo World League Preliminaries, held from May 24-27 in Los Alamitos.

Obert, a rising junior who earned ACWPC Second Team All-America honors last season, is training at UC Irvine with a number of other hopefuls in advance of the FINA League Preliminaries. If Obert is selected for the U.S. squad, he will take part in the qualification tournament in an attempt to secure a spot for the U.S. in the FINA Super Final, held from June 11-16 in Chelyabinsk, Russia.

The U.S. is joined by Brazil and Canada at the FINA League Preliminaries. The U.S. will take on both Canada and Brazil on May 25 and May 27.

Obert racked up 51 goals for Pacific last season, notching a career-high five goals in the Tigers' upset of then-No. 4 California. He tallied 15 multi-goal games from the center position, leading Pacific to a sixth-place finish in the MPSF Tournament for the second consecutive season.
