Obert To Compete For US At FINA World League Preliminaries

May 21, 2013

Pacific Men's Water Polo's Alex Obert has been named to the U.S. squad in advance of the FINA Water Polo World League Preliminaries, held from May 24-27 in Los Alamitos.

Obert, a rising junior who earned ACWPC Second Team All-America honors last season, spent the last two weeks training with other hopefuls at UC Irvine. The U.S. team will square off with Canada and Brazil in the three-team tournament in preparation for the FINA Super Final, held from June 11-16 in Chelyabinsk, Russia.

Obert racked up 51 goals for Pacific last season, notching a career-high five goals in the Tigers' upset of then-No. 4 California. He tallied 15 multi-goal games from the center position, leading Pacific to a sixth-place finish in the MPSF Tournament for the second consecutive season.
