Pacific Baseball Takes On Sac State Tuesday At Klein
The Pacific baseball team wraps up a four-game homestand Tuesday at Klein Family Field against Sacramento State at 6 p.m.
The Tigers have won three of the last five, averaging 5.2 runs per game while allowing 3.4 per contest. Freshman OF Gio Brusa has led the offense, as he has smacked four home runs in his last six games, while driving in nine.
Brusa's eighth-inning home run provided the winning margin on Saturday against UC Davis, as Pacific won 5-4. The Tigers took the lead in the seventh inning when Tyler Sullivan, Tyger Pederson and Dustin Torchio all reached base on consecutive bunts.
Senior 3B Dustin Torchio carries an eight-game hit streak into Tuesday's action. He is hitting .455 in his 11 games, 20-for-44, with a four of doubles and four RBI. Torchio also carries a .510 on base percentage in that stretch and has hit safely in 10 of those 11 games, with seven multi-hit games.
On Friday against the Aggies, LHP John Haberman tossed eight scoreless innings, but took the no decision when UC Davis scored two unearned runs in the top of the ninth. Tigers pitchers have a 3.60 ERA in the last five games.
RHP Mike Hager gets the start for Pacific (13-33 overall, 5-16 Big West) against Sacramento State. Hager is 1-3 with a 6.40 ERA on the year. Hager tossed 2.1 innings of relief against the Aggies on Sunday, allowing a run on three hits.
Sacramento State enters at 32-20 on the year, and 14-10 in the Western Athletic Conference. The Hornets will start senior RHP Zach Morgan, who is 5-2 with a 4.25 ERA this season. In 59.1 innings, he's struck out 26 against 17 walks. In his last outing, he allowed a run on two hits in an inning out of the bullpen against UC Davis last Tuesday.
Following Tuesday's contest, the Tigers will head to Santa Barbara for a three-game series against UCSB starting Friday at 3 p.m.
