ERDELYI WINS PRESTIGIOUS CUTINO AWARD AS NATION'S TOP PLAYER
After one of the best seasons in Pacific Men's Water Polo history, Balazs Erdelyi has been named the school's first-ever winner of the Cutino Award, announced by The Olympic Club of San Francisco Saturday. The honor is bestowed annually to the nation's most outstanding collegiate water polo player as voted by the coaches of NCAA Division I institutions. Congratulations Balazs!
BREAKING GROUND ON SOFTBALL DUGOUTS
With your help, in the past two years we have added state-of-the-art lights and a beautiful new scoreboard. With those phases now complete, we are proud to announce that the new dugout phase has finally begun! This week, the contractors broke ground on our new softball dugouts and backstop improvements and they are scheduled to be done by mid-July.
WOMEN'S WATER POLO TO JOIN GOLDEN COAST CONFERENCE
After five seasons as part of the Big West Conference, the Pacific Women's Water Polo program will be a founding member of the new Golden Coast Conference, announced by the league office Monday.
The new conference, made up of seven universities from the state of California, will begin competition in the spring of 2014. Joining Pacific as members of the new conference are Azusa Pacific, Cal Baptist, Fresno Pacific, Loyola Marymount, San Diego State and Santa Clara.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL EARNS PUBLIC RECOGNITION AWARD
University of the Pacific's Women's Volleyball team was one of 10 programs from Big West Conference member institutions to receive Public Recognition Awards for their Academic Progress Rates from the NCAA, the organization announced on June 5. The Tigers were the only league women's volleyball program to be recognized. Keep up the good work Tigers!
BASEBALL EARNS BIG WEST SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
The Pacific Baseball team was recognized by the Big West this past Tuesday as the Tigers were named a Spring Sportsmanship Award Winner. The Sportsmanship Award is presented to each of the league's 16 championship sports and is given to the program that best demonstrates excellent conduct in competition. The award is voted upon by the respective student-athletes in each of the sports.
TIGER ALUM SVENJA ENGELHARDT TO PLAY WITH GERMAN NATIONAL TEAM
Just two years removed from her playing days at Pacific, Tiger alum Svenja Engelhardt (2007-10) is making her mark on the international stage as the former standout has been named to the German National Team for the upcoming summer competitions. Svenja finished her career among Pacific's all-time greatest players as she posted 1,386 career kills, No. 9 in Pacific's record books. Her 175 career aces ranks No. 2 on Pacific's all-time aces list while her 0.45 ace per game total tied for the all-time best per game average among Pacific servers.
