Kristopher Hall is the new assistant women's soccer coach in Athletics.

Thomas Harper is a new public safety officer in Public Safety.

Gilbert Perez is the new business forecasting research associate in the Eberhardt School of Business.

Jody Renner is the new office coordinator in the Cowell Wellness Center Counseling Services.

Skye Stansbury is the new program services assistant in Gladys L. Benerd School of Education.

Sonia Whitling is a new planning coordinator in the Dean's Office at Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry.

Dr. Sigmund Abelson '66 hired to Support Dental School's Clinic Transition to New Campus

Dr. Sigmund H. Abelson '66 has joined the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry to provide strategic guidance and support as the school plans for the transition of its clinics and educational programs to a new San Francisco campus in the summer of 2014. In April, Abelson was named Assistant Dean, Clinical Transition, and Associate Professor, Dental Practice. He will collaborate with faculty, staff and students across departments and functions as the school prepares to relocate its San Francisco clinics, which serve approximately 10,000 patients each year.

Abelson is a respected leader who brings decades of experience in dental education, clinical practice, administration and organizational management. He also has deep ties to the people, programs and culture at Pacific. A 1966 graduate of the Dugoni School, Abelson is a former regent of the University and a former member of the Pacific Dugoni Foundation board. In 2002, the Dugoni School's Alumni Association honored Abelson with its Medallion of Distinction, the Association's highest honor.

Abelson most recently held roles at the University of Southern California (USC) Ostrow School of Dentistry, including positions as the school's associate dean of clinical affairs and associate professor of clinical dentistry. He also served as acting dean of the USC Ostrow School of Dentistry from 2008 until 2009. Previously, Abelson served as the associate director for governance, strategic development and component relations of the California Dental Association (CDA) and was a speaker of the CDA House of Delegates for nine years. Abelson practiced restorative dentistry in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles for 33 years.

Notable Changes

Demetrius Celestine was promoted from Custodian Group I to Custodian Group II in Support Services.

Gary (Reid) Galbreath transferred from McGeorge School of Law to as a new Public Safety Officer in Public Safety.

Gabriel Reyes was promoted from custodian group II to custodian group II lead in Support Services.

Christina Tharp was promoted from Admission Counselor to Assistant Director of Admission.

Adam Tomsha was promoted from Custodian Group II to Custodian Group II Lead in Support Services.

Dr. Dari Sylvester Appointed Director of the Jacoby Center for Public Service and Civic Leadership

Associate Professor of Political Science, Dr. Dari Sylvester was appointed director of the Jacoby Center for Public Service and Civic Leadership. She will fill the position being vacated by the retirement of the current and founding director, Dr. Robert Benedetti.

Sylvester has taught political science at Pacific since 2005. She has been the director of research for the Jacoby Center since 2011 and during that time has helped procure more than a quarter of a million
 dollars in grant funding for the Center. Sylvester also will continue to teach political science with a 60% appointment.

The Jacoby Center for Public Service and Civic Leadership, established in 2001, encourages civic leadership and community engagement through research, internships and service projects.
