Pacific Contingent Heads To NCAA West Regional Friday
University of the Pacific cross country team will send three runners to the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, Calif., Friday morning. The women's 6K race will begin at 11:45 a.m. at the Haggin Oaks Golf Course. The race will feature runners from 37 teams throughout the western United States.
Coach Josh Jones will send sophomores Lindsay Wourms (Camas, Wash.) and Becky Grabow (Carson City, Nev.) to the race, along with junior Sarah Bailey (Vernon, British Columbia, Canada).
The Tigers contingent has experience in the NCAA regionals, with Wourms and Grabow racing in last year's regional in Seattle, Washington while Bailey competed in the NCAA South Region in 2012 as a member of the Jacksonville Dolphins.
Coach Josh Jones said of the race: "This will be a great opportunity for Lindsay, Becky and Sarah to run the times they are capable of running. Looking great at WCC and having a disappointing time has been a huge motivator. They are great competitors and they have worked hard all year and have dedicated themselves for this moment."
Jones also referenced the balanced field the Tigers will see in Sacramento.
"I look forward to seeing them run Friday and seeing some records broken. The competition will be tremendous. We have the number one team in the Country in Arizona and then your usual great teams like Oregon, Stanford and Washington. It will be a great race to watch".
