Tigers Fall At San Diego In Final 2013 Match

The Pacific women's soccer team closed out the 2013 season with a 2-1 loss at San Diego on Saturday, Nov. 9. The Tigers finish the season at 4-12-3 overall and 3-5-1 in West Coast Conference action. The Toreros improved to 12-8-0 overall and 5-4-0 in WCC play. The Tigers finished the season in sixth place, four spots better than they were predicted in the preseason coaches poll.

It took the Tigers a while to get going offensively, with senior Maricela Padilla getting the team's first shot in the 21st minute. The Toreros took a 1-0 lead at the 40:43 mark when Lauren Dotson scored on a cross. Pacific ended up being outshot 5-3, as USD led 1-0 at the break.

The Tigers opened up the offense in the early part of the second half, getting three shots (two from Padilla, one from senior Brittni Beeman) in the first 20 minutes. USD took a 2-0 lead after a goal from Jenna Owens at the 70:34 mark. Pacific cut it to 2-1 with a goal from senior Sasha Moscatello off of a pass from Padilla at the 76:40 mark. The Toreros held off the Tigers the rest of the way, though Padilla did blast one more shot.

Pacific outshot the Toreros 7-3 in the second half, to hold a 10-8 edge in shots for the game. Senior goalkeeper Tashia Long had two saves in her final game in goal for the Tigers.

With the season's final game, the Tigers say goodbye to seniors Beeman, Long, Moscatello, Padilla, Milan Cabrera, Haylee Bettencourt and Rebecca Germano.
