Counsman, Brooks Earn NorPac West Awards
The NorPac West Division awards were announced on Monday, and for the second straight week Pacific picked up two awards. Senior Paige Counsman was named NorPac West Player of the Week and Freshman Sidney Brooks earned the Rookie of the Week honor in the division.
Counsman, who hails from Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. was instrumental in Pacific's 4-2 victory over California on Sunday. The forward converted on a penalty stroke that gave Pacific a 2-1 lead just seconds before the period break. In the second half, Counsman added an assist on Brooks' goal. On the season to date, Counsman has a pair of goals and the afformentioned assist on 16 shots. Her goal was the 11th of her career.
Brooks, a freshman from San Diego, Calif., scored her first career goal in second half of the Tiger victory Sunday. The forward punched in a goal from the left side, following a short pass from Counmsman after battle for possesion in the circle. The goal widened the Orange and Black's lead to 4-1 with just over 12 minutes left to play in the contest.
In addition to Counsman and Brooks, Pacific has picked up three additional NorPac West awards this season, including Rookie of the Week honors for Nicole Laskosky and Katharine Egan and a Defensive Player of the Week designation for redshirt sophomore Molly Macierz.
Pacific will look to continue their impressive showing in NorPac play on Friday as they take on the No. 6 Stanford Cardinal at Stanford's Varsity Field Turf. The game starts at 6 p.m.
