No. 3 Pacific Men's Water Polo Falls To No. 2 USC
No. 3 Pacific dropped just its second game this season, falling to No. 2 USC 10-6 at the SoCal Men's Water polo tournament Sunday in Irvine.
Senior Balazs Erdelyi scored twice for Pacific (12-2), but a five-goal second quarter by the Trojans was too much for the Tigers to come back from.
Erdelyi opened the scoring with two first-quarter goals,, but USC answered with two of their own.
In the second quarter, sophomore Aleksandar Petrovic gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead before USC reeled off three-straight goals, capped by a score from Nikola Vavic.
Senior Goran Tomasevic responded with a goal to bring Pacific within one, at 5-4, but the Trojans closed the half with another two tallies, for a 7-4 lead at halftime.
USC stretched the advantage to 10-4 before senior Andres Oneto and junior Sean Grady closed the scoring.
Senior Alex Malkis finished with 12 saves in net, while USC keeper James Clark made 11 stops.
USC advances to the SoCal final, where the Trojans will play No. 1 UCLA.
Pacific will face No. 4 Stanford in the third place game at 4:50 p.m.
