Pacific Falls At Home To Iowa

The Pacific women's soccer dropped a 2-0 decision to Iowa on Sunday, Sept.1, at Knoles Field. Pacific fell to 0-3-1 on the season, while Iowa improved to 4-0. Iowa was 2-0 in the Pacific Soccer Classic to claim the title. The Tigers were 0-1-1 in the Classic. In Sunday's other match, UC Davis defeated Drake 3-2 in Davis.

"It was a tough result, but I thought we responded to the circumstances fantastically," said Head Coach Keith Coleman. "We played down for 70 minutes and kept a very good team in check. We created quality chances throughout the game and know we are making progress. I'm very pleased with the amount of heart our team showed today."

In the first 19 minutes of the match it was very even, as Iowa held a 5-4 advantage in shots. At the 20:44 mark, Tiger senior Brittni Beeman was given a red card which resulted in the Tigers playing down a player the rest of the match. The Hawkeyes used the advantage, out-shooting Pacific 5-1 the rest of the half. Iowa scored 37:26 into the match on a goal from Alex Melin shooting across to the right side of the goal.

The Tigers kept the match close and were even in second half shots at 6-6. At the 76:35 mark, Pacific was whistled for a foul inside the box that resulted in a penalty kick for Iowa. Cloe Lacasse was able to convert for the score to make it 2-0.

Iowa had a 16-11 shot advantage in the match, along with a 4-1 edge in corners. Senior Maricela Padilla had five of the Tigers' shots. Freshman Alex Hussar and Junior Mirella Mattos each added a pair of shots.

The Tigers are next in action with a road match at UC Santa Barbara at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.
